Icing Control－One of the most effective methods of preventing icing problems in cooling tower is to rotate the fans in reverse, which provides heat to melt the ice. This procedure is particularly effective in counterflow towers whose enclosed sides retain the heat.Fig.3. Counterflow towers have air-inlet louvers near the base. Air enters horizontally from two or four sides, immediately turns upward, and encounters water falling from a low-pressure spray-distribution system. Water strikes splash bars of cellular fill to accelerate the heat-exchange process the drift eliminators, and into the plenum chamber at the top. The fan exhausts the air through the stack.Fig. 4.
